Where to stay in Sorrento for New Year's Eve 2027

For New Year's Eve in Sorrento, the best area to stay is the town centre, a few minutes' walk from Piazza Tasso: after the fireworks you walk back to your hotel with no car, no taxi and no train. If you want quiet, lower prices or a hotel where everything happens under one roof, consider Sant'Agnello, Piano di Sorrento, Meta, Vico Equense or the hills of Massa Lubrense. Here are the pros and cons of each area for the night of 31 December 2026.

Before you choose: few hotels open, minimum stays

Only about one hotel in four is open at New Year. In late 2024 Federalberghi put it at 25%, around twenty hotels in Sorrento itself, heading for full occupancy with average stays of 3–4 nights. Many packages require a minimum stay of 2 or 3 nights, with the gala dinner on 31 December included. And remember that the Circumvesuviana stops in the early evening of 31 December (the last train from Sorrento to Naples left at 7:02pm in 2025). Sorrento town centre and Piazza Tasso

Stay in the centre if you want the party. Pros: you walk back in minutes, you can dine in town and join the square, and the fireworks are a short walk away. Cons: higher prices, noise until late in rooms on Piazza Tasso and Corso Italia, and the ZTL. The town-centre ZTL applies from 7 December to 6 January on public holidays and the days before them, from 7:30pm to 4am. 31 December counts, so ask your hotel to register your number plate. Covered paid car parks near the centre include the municipal Achille Lauro car park and the Vallone dei Mulini car park. Ask for a room at the back if noise bothers you.

Marina Grande and Marina Piccola

These are the harbours, perfect for a romantic seafront dinner, but getting back up is uphill. Marina Grande, the old fishing village, is about a 10-minute walk from Piazza Tasso going down, a little longer coming back. Marina Piccola is where the fireworks are launched. The lift from the Villa Comunale runs only during the day in winter (roughly 7:30–10:30am and 4–7:30pm), so at night you climb on foot.

Sant'Agnello

Quiet but close: central Sorrento is about 2 km away, a 25-minute walk. Hotels with gardens and sea views are often cheaper than in the centre. In 2025/26 the mayor's New Year toast with music took place in Piazza Matteotti at 11:30am on 1 January. See Sant'Agnello.

Piano di Sorrento and Meta

These towns offer good value and their own Circumvesuviana stations, handy for arriving by train from Naples on the days before New Year. On the night itself you will need a taxi or transfer to reach the party in Piazza Tasso and get back. They are best if you celebrate locally or at your hotel. See Piano di Sorrento and Meta.

Vico Equense

Vico Equense has its own party. In 2025/26 there was a toast at 11:59pm in Piazza Umberto I, the square overlooking the bay, with a concert and DJ set, and a classical concert on 1 January. Sorrento is about a dozen kilometres away, so choose Vico if you plan to celebrate there. See Vico Equense.

Massa Lubrense and Sant'Agata

Choose these hills for a quiet, all-in hotel celebration with views over both bays. Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi is about 10 km from Sorrento by road, around 20 minutes by daytime bus, and there are no buses at night. See Massa Lubrense.
