The ideal romantic dinner here is by the sea or in a room with a view, with live music and fireworks you can see without joining the crowd. In 2025/26 the town's fireworks were launched at 1 am over the bay of Marina Piccola, so venues on the port and hotels facing the bay have the best view.

• Among the lemon trees: 'O Parrucchiano La Favorita serves an à la carte dinner in its historic lemon garden.

Hotels for couples: sea views and a terrace for the fireworks

Watching the fireworks from your hotel terrace, glass in hand and nobody pushing, is worth paying a little extra for. Two examples from last season (indicative terms):

• Romantic New Year at Hotel Il Faro: 2 nights with breakfast, dinner with drinks and live music, welcome gift in the room, from about €320 per person, about €370 with a sea-view double. Fruit basket and breakfast in the room available as extras.

The best December sunsets

In December the sun sets early, around 4:40 pm, so sunset fits easily before dinner.

• Villa Comunale, the terrace next to the San Francesco cloister, looking over the bay to Vesuvius and Naples.
• The Deserto at Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi: from the monastery's belvedere, the highest point of the village, you see both the Bay of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno, with Capri in front. From November to March it is usually open 10 am–12 pm and 3–5 pm, which covers a December sunset. About ten minutes' walk uphill from the village square.

From the centre you reach Marina Grande in a few minutes down steps and lanes; in winter it belongs to locals and fishermen, and a seafood lunch here on 30 December or 1 January can beat any gala dinner. In the evening, walk under the lights of Corso Italia and stop at the Vallone dei Mulini, a green gorge with the ruins of an old mill, steps from Piazza Tasso. With a car or taxi, give a morning to Sant'Agata: in 2025/26 there was a guided walk to Monte San Costanzo with an end-of-year toast on 30 December, and the traditional New Year song in the streets on the afternoon of the 31st.

Spa, concerts and time for two

• Spa: some hotels on the peninsula have an indoor pool or spa open in winter, but not all; ask before booking.
• Concerts: in 2025/26 the Cathedral choir's Christmas concert on 26 December and the Sorrento Sinfonietta at Teatro Tasso on the morning of the 31st. See concerts.
